/*
 * Self-hosted web fonts. Previously loaded from fonts.googleapis.com.
 *
 * WHY. Google Fonts was the only third-party host this site touched. Every
 * page view sent every reader's IP address and User-Agent to Google before a
 * single word rendered -- on a site whose privacy page says, truthfully, that
 * we set no advertising or analytics cookies. That sentence stayed true either
 * way, which is precisely the problem: the transfer was invisible to it.
 * Serving the files ourselves removes the transfer rather than disclosing it.
 *
 * It is also faster. The old markup cost two extra DNS lookups, two TLS
 * handshakes and a render-blocking stylesheet on a foreign origin before the
 * first font byte could even be requested. Now the fonts come from the
 * connection the page already has open. It removes a dependency too: a network
 * that blocks fonts.googleapis.com (China, some corporate proxies) used to get
 * fallback typography on a design that was chosen deliberately.
 *
 * INTER AND SPACE GROTESK ARE VARIABLE FONTS, which is the single thing to
 * understand before editing this file. One file covers every weight in its
 * range, so Inter 400 and Inter 700 are the same bytes. Asking Google's css2
 * API for a weight LIST returns that same file once per weight, and saving it
 * under per-weight names produced twelve duplicate copies here -- 856 KB
 * instead of 255 KB, and a page using two weights downloading identical bytes
 * twice. Proven by requesting the range instead: byte-identical md5s, declared
 * `font-weight: 400 800`. Hence the range descriptors and the weightless
 * filenames below. IBM Plex Mono is NOT variable on Google Fonts, so its three
 * weights are genuinely three files and keep the weight in their names.
 *
 * WHAT IS HERE. Exactly the faces the old <link> requested -- Space Grotesk
 * 500-700, Inter 400-800, IBM Plex Mono 400/500/600 -- in the latin and
 * latin-ext subsets, which is what an English-language publication renders.
 * The cyrillic, greek and vietnamese subsets Google also served are dropped;
 * nothing on this site sets text in them, and no reader's browser was ever
 * downloading them anyway.
 *
 * unicode-range is preserved from Google's own CSS, and it matters: it is what
 * keeps a browser from fetching the latin-ext file for a page that has no
 * latin-ext characters. font-display: swap matches the old &display=swap, so
 * text paints immediately in the fallback and never blocks on a font.
 *
 * All three families are SIL Open Font License 1.1, which permits hosting
 * copies like this. The licence for each travels with the files in
 * /assets/fonts/OFL-*.txt, as the OFL requires.
 *
 * TO CHANGE A WEIGHT: re-fetch from Google's css2 API with a browser
 * User-Agent (it serves woff2 only to browsers), ask for a RANGE where the
 * family is variable, keep the latin and latin-ext blocks, and drop the files
 * beside this one. Do not hand-edit unicode-range.
