The 5.4% year-over-year increase reflects the continued expansion of U.S. liquefaction infrastructure, which has positioned America as a major competitor in global energy markets alongside established suppliers like Australia and Qatar.
For power system operators, LNG serves as a critical flexibility tool, enabling natural gas power plants to maintain reliable generation when pipeline supplies face constraints or seasonal demand fluctuations. Many nations have invested in import terminals and regasification capacity to hedge against supply disruptions and price volatility. LNG also bridges regional energy imbalances, allowing surplus production in exporting regions to reach demand centers globally.
The record 2025 performance reflects structural shifts in energy markets. European demand for LNG has remained elevated following the disruption of Russian pipeline supplies, while Asian markets continue to expand power generation capacity supported by gas infrastructure.
